This photo was made during our trip to Siem Reap last summer. After visiting the temple complex of Angkor Wat, we returned to Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra and the image of newly bloomed lotuses floating gently over a bowl of water immediately captured our eyes. It felt so calm, peaceful and tranquil.

In both Hinduism and Buddhism, the lotus is considered a sacred flower. It symbolises for both purity and serenity, and it is often used as the seat of Buddha and many Hindu deities.

  1. Amazing photo and thanks for telling us about the lotus! It brings such a beautiful meaning!

    1. Glad to hear that you like it 😉 I found lotus spectacular. Despite growing in mud, it is so beautiful and smells so good. Many parts of it such as the leaves, the seeds and the heart (where all the seeds located) can be used for cooking too 🙂
