Lanterns are the main features of Nebuta Matsuri - a unique summer festival.
Though Nebuta Matsuri is incredible, it's not easy to be there. Therefore, three museums were set up across Aomori to bring the festival closer to visitors.

Resting on the waterfront, Nebuta Museum is unmistakable due to its deep red facade.

Here, you can examine the impressive scale and intricate details of the Nebuta - luminous three-dimensional giants created from paper and light.
At Nebuta Museum, the atmosphere of the festival is also recreated.

Hirosaki lanterns are fan-shaped and decorated with scenes from kabuki.

To experience the thrill outside of the festival period, head over to Neputa Mura.

Goshogawara lantern floats are the world's largest paper sculptures.

Each weighs about 19 tons and reaches a height of 23 meters, equivalent to seven stories. The lanterns depict gods, heroes, and other mythical figures.
The floats are exhibited in the Tachineputa Museum, which resembles a hangar.
