Officially known as Thira, the island is the remnant of a volcanic island in the Aegean Sea. It was formed 3600 years ago as a result of a massive eruption.

Perched on a 350m-high cliff, Imerovigli lies on the highest point of Santorini caldera.

It was once a lookout post providing security from pirates. Under Venetian rule, Imerovigli became a stronghold built on a rocky headland called Skaros.
These days, the village is renowned for its aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Oia, also known as Pano Meria, is the poster child of Santorini and of the whole Cyclades.

Its name epitomizes mesmerizing sunsets and cubical buildings in white, earthy pink, and ocher cascading down the caldera slope.
Oia suffered destruction due to the 1950 eruption, with many buildings in ruins.
